mix tape

These are the songs from the CD Edward gave to Bella on Halloween. There's either a line or a general idea in each song that conveys his feelings for her without being obvious. And of course, the first song was the one playing in the car when he drove her home after they first met. They're all great songs--I hope you give them a listen! :)

Chapter 7: Resolve

Chapter Seven teasers:

The gang goes to a tapas and wine bar called Meritage for dinner, but unfortunately it's closed down and I can't find any pictures! Luckily, there's another tapas lounge called Chai's that is similar, though maybe not quite as classy. If they wanted to go for tapas right now, they'd probably go to Chai's on upper King Street.

When Edward and Bella go on their walk, they walk down to Waterfront Park. This is a really pretty place to hang out whether you're a tourist or a local. The end of this pier is where I envisioned them having their talk. It's a beautiful place to just sit and talk.

Here are the two most widely recognized features at Waterfront Park:

Chapter 6: Walls

Chapter Six teasers:

Jasper's Arrival
Our airport is tiny. It only gets to be called "international" because it's linked to the Air Force base. lol  But having a tiny airport is actually quite nice when you're running late and have roughly twenty minutes to catch your flight... Not that I've ever done that *cough cough*...numerous times...

When Rose and Bella pick Jasper up, he wants a good ol' American burger & fries. They go to Five Guys. This is the downtown location. It's a chain, so if there's one in your area and you haven't been there, GO. NOW. so good.

Chapter 5: The Swans' House (Halloween)

I imagine Bella's parents' house would look something like this. It would be located in the town where I live, Summerville. It's named that because it's a bit further inland, and it's where people would go back in colonial days to try to escape from the heat and humidity of summer. I'm not so sure how this worked, because it's pretty damn hot everywhere these days! lol

Chapter 5: Trick or Treat?

Chapter Five teasers:

On their first dinner outing, Bella and Edward go to Basil. It's an amazing Thai restaurant on King Street. If you ever visit (or if you live here & haven't been there) you definitely need to go! Seriously. So good. And the ambience is really cool. The inside is dark and chic, and there's a bar you can sit at with a window that looks over the kitchen where your food is being cooked.

Chapter 3: Friends

Chapter Three teaser pics:

The idea is that this house is the Cullens' "summer" home, and they rented it out before their kids moved in. It's located on James Island, near Folly Beach. It's about a five to ten minute drive to downtown from there.

Chapter Two

Chapter Two:  Breathe

College of Charleston:
This is where Edward, Bella, and Rose go to school (and me too!). It's a beautiful campus. The area in front of that big building is called The Cistern. It's a lovely place to sit and read or write or whatever between classes, and it's where Bella goes to sit when she has breaks. Graduation has taken place here since the founding of the school. It's an awesome tradition: all the girls wear white dresses and are given a red rose, and the guys wear tuxes and a red rose boutonniere.

The Citadel:
This is a pretty widely known school. It's a private military college, and it's quite prestigious. This is where Emmett graduated from, and it's where Jacob was going to transfer to (my hubs is transferring here next year too! Not as a member of the corps, but as a veteran).

I can't remember if it's mentioned, but Alice attends The Art Institute of Charleston. I'd really like to go there, but their programs are a lot more expensive than C of C's Studio Arts program.

Chapter 1: Bella's House, The Battery, and The Market

ETA: I've gone back and added little "teaser" pictures for each chapter. Here are some for chapter one:

Bella and Rose live in a Charleston Single, which is also known as a Shotgun House. Homes were built this way back when Charleston was first founded because of the heat, and because of crowding. The city is on a peninsula, and there really isn't all that much room for spreading out. (You may know that Charleston is known as the "Holy City" because there are so many old churches. So there are also laws that say no building can be taller than any of the church steeples.) So the best option for building houses was to make them long and narrow with porches on the sides. This allowed access to the breezes blowing through the alleyways. Houses were also usually painted light, pastel colors in order to reflect sunlight and supposedly keep them cooler.

This is something like what Bella and Rose's house would look like. Remember their apartment is on the top floor. It's typical these days for owners of these houses to split the floors up into separate apartments so they can collect more rent. It's expensive to own a house downtown!

Here are some other examples of Charleston Singles:

This is where Bella is running when the story first opens, and where Bella and Edward meet for the first time.

Edward also mentions that he tends to park at the Battery and run down to the Market and back. Here are a couple of pics of the Market (aka the Slave Market, but I, along with most locals, don't like to call it that). This is what it looks like on the Meeting Street side:

and the opposite end on East Bay Street:

Hey Everybody!

I wanted to start a blog so I can include images and other information so you can have a clear picture of the settings in You Should Know. If you've ever been to Charleston, you can probably imagine most of the scenery. But here's a place for some pictures and stuff for those of you who have no clue what I'm talking about.
